Title: The Smurf Olympics by Peyo

Notable: Book #11 in The Smurfs Graphic Novels series

Premise:

This is a collection of four stories which feature the Smurfs engaging in sporstmanlike pursuits.  Includes: “The Smurf Olympics,” “More Smurf Olympics,” and a bunch of one-page sports-themed comics.

My thoughts:

To be honest, I’m not a huge fan of sports in general. Unless it’s badminton.  I’ll play badminton any day, all day.  I also act like I’ve lost about half of my brain cells when playing badminton, but that just makes for a more entertaining game.  Sadly, this Smurf book does not feature any badminton-playing Smurfs.

The main story is about Hefty Smurf and his dissatisfaction at not having any real competitors in his sporting endeavors.  He hits upon the idea of hosting a Smurf Olympics, but he has to help the other Smurfs get in shape first.  Most of them only give a half-hearted effort, but Weakling Smurf tries his best and ends up coming out on top in the end.  The underdog wins!

I recommend The Smurf Olympics to fans of the Smurfs and all things sports.

Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Until next time…
