Title: The Smurflings by Peyo

Notable: Book #15 in The Smurfs Graphic Novels series

Premise:

Here’s a collection of stories which feature the Smurf children, the Smurflings.  Includes: “The Smurflings,” “Puppy and the Smurflings,” “The Smurfs and the Little Ghosts,” and “The Smurfs and the Booglooboo.”

My thoughts:

This book is important because it shows us where the Smurf children came from.  At Father Time’s home three of the Smurfs get stuck in a clock whose hands are running backward.  When they emerge, they find that they’ve become younger and have the childish mindset to match.  These young Smurfs actually prefer their new existence and decide that they’d like to remain children.

Sassette comes into being when the Smurflings learn that Smurfette would really like some female companionship.  They steal Gargamel’s formula for making a female Smurf, take it back to the village, and secretly cook up another Smurf gal in Papa Smurf’s laboratory.

Those are my two favorite stories in the book.  For Smurf fans, you’ll want to read this one for sure because it explains the origins of the Smurf young ‘uns.

I recommend The Smurflings to fans of the Smurfs and to children who like cartoonish graphic novels.

Rating: 3 1/2 Stars

Until next time…
